We are pleased to introduce Valérie Saulnier. A professional jazz singer and certified music therapist with a Master’s in music therapy (2021), Valerie joined the Institute in October 2025. Up to now, she has been mostly involved in our communication and advocacy initiatives, including workshops to help raise awareness and understanding of music therapy. Welcome to our team, Valérie!

Welcoming Stephen Venkatarangam

We wish to introduce Stephen Venkatarangam, an international touring professional musician who is also a certified music therapist (2016) with a master’s in music therapy (2017), and a PhD (2025) from Concordia University. Stephen joined the Institute in October 2025 and is involved in our new pilot project with Parkinson Québec.  Welcome to our team, Stephen!

Our Drum Circle Workshop with Baratanga: a success!

On January 18, the Institute hosted a Percussion Workshop for Music Therapists, led by Louis-Daniel Joly from Baratanga.
We would like to thank the Quebec Music Therapy Association (AQM) for their collaboration and financial support for their members, as well as the music therapists who attended for your participation, the richness of the exchanges, and, above all, your passion for the profession. January is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month. In this interview broadcasted  on January 3rd 2026,  on Dessine-moi un matin (Radio-Canada OHdio), Dr. Julia Chabot, geriatrician, shares her observations on the therapeutic power of music in care settings for older adults, including those living with Alzheimer’s disease.  Her insights directly echo the foundations of music therapy: the clinical and intentional use of music to support well-being, communication, relationships, and quality of life within our healthcare system.

Parkinson Québec
New partnership with Parkinson Québec

The National Music Therapy Institute is proud to announce the start of a Drum Circle, in the context of a pilot project in partnership with Parkinson Québec.  Beginning on January 27 2026, Stephen Venkatarangam, certified music therapist (MTA), will offer a serie of 12 weekley sessions to a group of adults living with Parkinson's Disease.  We are looking forward to welcoming you at the Institute and we thank you for your trust!
