Children in Vulnerable Situations - Series of thematic publications by the Institute

In the context of children in vulnerable situations, music therapy can support, among other things:
– emotional expression and the development of internal resources
– self-esteem and a sense of competence
– emotional regulation and the reduction of anxiety

Music therapy is often grounded in approaches informed by social pediatrics, complex trauma, and attachment theories, supporting connection, a sense of safety, and relational engagement.

Invitation - Urban retreat, for mothers living with perinatal grief

On May 3rd, 2026, the Center for Reproductive Loss will mark the International Bereaved Mother’s Day by offering an urban retreat dedicated to perinatal grief.  Held at the National Music Therapy Institute, this day will provide them a space for reflection, connection, and expression, where music serves as a therapeutic medium for support and soothing, in a safe and supportive environment.

Impatients - photos lancement CD
Les Impatients - Launch of BBB's 4th CD

The launch evening of the Impatient's Big Bang Band (BBB)’s 4th album was full of emotions. Their performance was an impressive display of creativity, resilience and pride.  Founder of the Impatients, Lorraine B. Palardy, and BBB members also delivered a vibrant and touching tribute to Dany Bouchard, who will soon complete his involvement with the Impatients.  An extraordinary musician and a very engaged music therapist, he has been running and supporting the members of this music creation workshop for 17 years. Congratulations to Dany and long live music creation at the Impatients!

Montreal Shira Choir

Since January 2025, music therapy has been offered to members of the Montreal Shira Choir.  Developed in partnership with the National Music Therapy Institute, this program's goal is to contribute to the wellbeing of participants, under the guidance of a music therapist from the Institute.  Groups sessions are offered at the Institute twice a week by one of our music therapist, Marie-Jeanne Beauchamp. On March 25th, the President of the Institute had the pleasure and honor of attending the Annual General Meeting of the Société de développement Commercial de Côte-des-Neiges (SDC-CDN).  This was a valuable opportunity to engage with our community, build connections, and raise awareness about the Institute and music therapy.

– relational engagement and social interaction
– emotional and sensory regulation

Music can be a particularly relevant medium for this population, as it offers a non-verbal form of expression and communication, helping to facilitate connection and achieve therapeutic goals.
